Arctic Monkeys to play at Rock Werchter 2014

A few weeks back, when the ultimate question was asked, i.e. ‘who would you most like to see at Rock Werchter 2014?’, the most frequent reply was ‘Arctic Monkeys’. And now many a household is dancing with joy. This is because Arctic Monkeys are to headline the festival on Friday 4 July. Two massive acts are now known: Metallica (3 July) and Arctic Monkeys (4 July). More festival news to follow. Tickets go on sale this coming Saturday 7 December at 2pm.

Arctic Monkeys are the spokesmen of a generation. “A great selfie of a generation this was. There was funky sorrow, cultivated desire, prickly sentiment. And there was maths: riff + melody = euphoria.”This is how Humo described an Arctic Monkeys concert in Vorst Nationaal in November 2013. For nearly ten years it has been said that front man Alex Turner expresses the joys and sorrows of his generation like no other. Since ‘AM’ (2013) he seems to have made the role his own. The record has just as much genius as its four predecessors, but the atmosphere is much more exuberant. The Monkeys have given up the Sheffield rain for the Los Angeles sun and it shows. Their concerts were always technically superb but maybe a little aloof. See their previous performances at Werchter. But today, all that has changed. Alex Turner is now a true performer and seeks real contact with his audience. It will be a hot evening on 4 July 2014.

Rock Werchter 2014 will be taking place from Thursday 3 July to Sunday 6 July. Over four days on the Festival grounds in Werchter (Belgium), you will be able to see music’s finest on three stages: Main Stage, KluB C and The Barn. At Rock Werchter we firmly believe in bringing together a mix of different genres, and that’s proved very popular. Last year’s four-day festival attracted some 140,000 (individual) festival-goers from far and wide and was completely sold out in advance. Rock Werchter is an international hit and has been awarded multiple prizes. In March of this year Rock Werchter won the prestigious ILMC Arthur Award for ‘Best Festival’ for the 5th time.
